Evaluating London’s Creative Health City Policy Design Process

During 2023, the Greater London Authority, Arts Council England and London Arts and Health asked more than 500 Londoners to initiate, build and test a model for the capital to become a Creative Health City. Three lively discussions were convened, and the process culminated in a cacophonous Unconference.

Asked to evaluate the process of co-designing London’s creative health policy, I listened carefully to what was said and filtered it through my existing knowledge of the sector. I wrote and laid out a 24-page internal report. The main messages that came through the policy-design process were that:

  • The Creative Health City should be built from the inside, from the local and inter-personal, in our neighbourhoods and urban ‘villages’.
  • Creative health needs to be integrated into all aspects of our lives.
  • Creative health is here to stay, supporting our health and wellbeing long into the future.

I made a series of recommendations to help London to realise this vision. You can read more here.
